Clinic Services
Primary Care
Primary care services provide health promotion and disease prevention such as complete physcial exams, daycare physical exams, sports physicals as well as diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illnesses.
Child Health
Ensuring the optimal growth and development of children in our community is an important priority of the Appalachian District Health Department. We offer many programs and services to help accomplish the goal of having happy, healthy children.
Adult Health
The Clinic Services Section of the Appalachian District Health Department offers a variety of programs and services to improve the health and quality of life for the residents of Alleghany, Ashe and Watauga Counties.
Family Planning
The Family Planning Clinic of the Appalachian District Health Department is designed to provide all women with access to an affordable healthcare source for their reproductive concerns.
Maternal Health
Diagnostic services, prenatal care and education are available for pregnant women.
Breast and Cervical Cancer
The North Carolina Breast & Cervical Cancer Program provides free or low cost breast and cervical cancer screenings and follow-up to eligible women in North Carolina. The Appalachian District Health Department is proud to be a provider of these services to women in our communities.
Pregnancy Care Management
Additional support services available to any pregnant woman who has applied for Medicaid. Monthly contacts with pregnant clients to assist in healthy outcomes for mother and child.
Travel Clinic
The Ashe and Watauga Health Department provides a Travel Clinic that is equipped to provide a number of key services for travelers. Our travel clinic offers pre-travel advice, travel related prescriptions and vaccinations.
Nutrition Services
Nutrition services provided by a Registered Dietitian include individual and group counseling for people of all ages regarding weight control, diabetes, cholesterol, prenatal health, and breastfeeding.
Women, Infants and Children
Includes food and nutrition counseling to children under age 5, pregnant women, and nursing mothers.
Care Coordination for Children
Care Coordination for Children (CC4C) is a program which provides formal case management to eligible children from birth to five years of age, who are at risk for poor health outcomes. This program is offered FREE OF CHARGE to residents of Alleghany, Ashe and Watauga counties.
Environmental Health Services
Provided for all residents of the district, environmental health services includes restaurant and facility inspections, septic tank evaluations and permits, water analysis for mineral content, water supply education, well evaluations and permits, vector control efforts, rabies prevention, and complaint investigations.[/one_half][one_half last]
Public Health Preparedness
Our staff works closely with local Emergency Management, Emergency Response Teams, the Western Regional Office, the North Carolina Public Health Preparedness and Response Branch, and other agencies to keep our counties up-to-date and informed of health alerts, emerging issues, and natural occurrences requiring a rapid, multi-agency, coordinated response.
Community Health Services
Communicable Disease
The Communicable Disease Control staff in each county health department can help find and prevent contagious diseases to help protect the health of the public. Services include immunizations, preventive education, early detection and treatment of specific diseases.
Sexually Transmitted Infection Prevention Program
Offers free and confidential testing to help determine if patients are infected with a sexually transmitted infection, including HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.
School Health Services
These services include screening, referral, vaccination and educational services to prevent specific diseases in children.
Northwest Tobacco Prevention Coalition
A five county coalition of organizations whose goals are to eliminate exposure to secondhand smoke, promote cessation for adults and youth, and prevent initiation of tobacco use among youth.
Vital Records
Accurate recording of all births and deaths for residents of Appalachian District Health Department counties. This information assists in assessing population, disease rates and demographic information.
Health Education and Promotion Program
Public Health Educators promote health to schools, churches, civic and community groups through collaborative planning, projects, and promotion.
