The Northwest Tobacco Prevention Coalition is an educational effort to increase awareness of the health hazards of tobacco use and secondhand smoke and to promote policies that protect the public from the negative consequences of tobacco use. The coalition serves Alleghany, Ashe, Caldwell, Watauga, and Wilkes Counties.
Mission Statement
The North Carolina Tobacco Prevention and Control Program works to improve the health of North Carolina residents by promoting smokefree environments and tobacco-free lifestyles.

• Identify and Eliminate Tobacco-Related Disparities in Specific Populations

Funding
Funding is provided by the Centers for Disease Control and is administered by the Tobacco Prevention and Control Branch within the Department of Health and Human Services, in partnership with local health departments. The Northwest Tobacco Prevention and its coordinator is housed in the Appalachian District Health Department.
