During my time as a Health Promotion intern, working on a grant titled Community Transformation Grant Project, I worked on a community clinical resource guide to better help connect the community to its resources regarding health and wellness. I also assisted in a project that focused on identifying food desserts throughout NC local health department region 3 by way of convenience stores and other food outlet assessments.
Through these projects and other assignments like creating the employee wellness newsletters, I improved my communication and writing skills. I learned how to communicate with co-workers about daily assignments and attended meetings with other Public Health workers and networked with Public Health professionals throughout the region. Completing this internship leaves me feeling better prepared to enter the workforce with a greater understanding of community health and my role as a Public Health educator.

My supervisors were always helpful and understanding. I appreciated that they took an interest in my passions and created opportunities for me to share them with our community. One of my fondest memories was when I taught a Pilates class to a group of women in the Ashe Family Literacy group. We had so much fun. Even though the giggling interfered with the breathing techniques, because of it we probably burned more calories. I loved showing those women how time efficient and fun it can be to exercise every day!
