The Appalachian District Health Department issues permits to individual artists that offer tattoo or permanent make-up services. A Registered Environmental Health Specialist inspects each artist in an establishment to ensure that they maintain clean facilities, practice good handwashing, and maintain accurate sterilization records for equipment just to name a few.
Tattoo permits are valid for a period of one year. Artists are required to annually fill out an application and pay the required fee of $300.00 prior to the expiration of their permit.
